ANOTHER AWARD FOR CARDINAL HUME CATHOLIC SCHOOL

GWK Architects are delighted to announce that Cardinal Hume Catholic School, Gateshead, received a Hadrian Award in December 2009.  In celebrating twenty years of the Hadrian Awards, it was judged Cardinal Hume School was of inspiring and exemplary design.  The comment from the judging panel:

"It is a school of three dimensions.  First, it responds to the senses by intelligent use of colour and form to match mood with activity; it recognises that its users are individuals, so it creates places, not just spaces, responding to the relationship people have with where they are.  Secondly, it recognises that school is a social hub of group actrivities and relationships, making the hall, library, inglenooks, etc., opportunities to gather together. And thirdly, it is a spiritual hub, symbolised by the prominence of the chapel and its sacrament, but sublimely by giving orientation to the school community in its activities and place in the wider world."

GWK are proud to add The Hadrian Award to Cardinal Hume School's list of accolades, including a Civic Trust Award and an RIBA Award in 2009 where the judges described the school as "breathtaking".
